Warsaw captured their first Northern Lakes Conference championship outright with a 7-3 win over 2nd place Concord at Tiger Field Monday night.
It was the Tigers 14th straight win, and their 12th in 13 league outings.
It was another big night at the plate for freshman Grady Nelson. After the first two Tigers reached in the 1st inning, Nelson took a fast ball that was belt high and over the middle of the plate and sent to the windshield of a car parked in the west parking lot of the Tiger Den for a 3-0 Warsaw lead.
Concord answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second, but Warsaw would get that run back in their half of their third.
Nelson would end up 4 for 4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He also cut down a base runner trying to go from 1st base to 3rd base with a perfect throw from right field.
Logan O'Malley reached on a hit and a walk and scored twice.
On the mound, Brandt Martin pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 3 and walking only 1. Oliver Nisen pitched the 6th and 7th innings, allowing a run on 1 hit.
Warsaw is 20-5 and continues their final week of the regular season games with home games Wednesday, against MIshawaka, Thursday against Mishawaka Marian and Friday against Huntington North in a makeup game from earlier this season.
