The Warsaw Lady Tigers fell in a hard fought match to 2A #2 Mishawaka Marian 3-1 Saturday.
The Tigers had to play from behind early as Marian's high-powered offense broke through Warsaw's back line just four minutes into the game to give the Knight's an early 1-0
advantage. The rest of the half would be played back and forth with both teams having chances, but Marian capitalized on their opportunities and got a second goal to take a 2-0 lead into the second half.
Warsaw's attack came to life in the second half, with
Rylee Burns and
Lola Pepper finding seams in Marian's strong back line. With sixteen-minutes on the clock,
Sophia Johnston
put the ball beyond the Knight defenders to a sprinting
Lola Pepper. Pepper composed herself and beat the Knight goalkeeper to cut the score in half. With less than five minutes remaining, Marian would get their third goal of the game to seal a 3-1 victory.
The loss drops Warsaw's record to 9-3-2. They will take a much needed week off before they return to the field on Saturday, September 24 against Wawasee. The game will kickoff at 11:30. With a win, Warsaw would clinch at least a share of the NLC championship.
