Penn put an end to the Lady Tiger soccer season with a 3-0 win at the Tiger Soccer Complex Wednesday night.
The game was scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play, but Penn was applying pressure on the Warsaw defense, and eventually that pressure led to the game's first goal.
With just over 10 minutes left in the half, Penn's Anika Guenther had the ball in space in front of the Warsaw net but 25 yards out. She pulled the trigger on a long shot that went over the outstretched arms of Warsaw keeper Ellie Schenck but below the cross bar and into the net to give Penn a 1-0 lead.
That goal stood up through halftime.
Throughout the game, Warsaw was forced to devote more players to defending their own net and were unable to mount a consistent attack.
That changed with less than 22 minutes to play in the 2nd half.
Warsaw put some heat on the Lady Kingsmen back line and earned a corner kick. The left-footed cross was lofted perfectly to the far post, but a header clanged off the post, then off a defender and off the end line with 21:30 remaining.
Penn scored again with 15:29 to go when Guenther again took a long shot--this time from more that 30' feet out--that gave the Lady Kingsmen the cushion they were looking for..
Penn added a 3rd goal when Ava Stevens rolled a shot passed the Lady Tiger defense and into the back of the net with 2:41 to play. .
The Lady Tigers end their season with a record of 12-7-1, with two of those losses coming to Penn--both by 3-0 scores.
