The Warsaw Lady Tiger soccer team traveled to Mishawaka and came away with a 2-0 win over a a tough Penn squad. Warsaw started the scoring early when
Lola Pepper broke
through the back line from a great pass by senior
Bonnie Hampton. Pepper would strike the ball from the top of the box and beat the Kingsman goalkeeper, giving the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Warsaw would create more chances, but none of them ended with goals as the Tigers would take their 1-0 lead into halftime.
Penn came out in the second half as the aggressors, as they put Warsaw on their heels for the first twenty minutes of the half. The Tigers withstood the storm just long enough for
Lola Pepper to receive a pass from
Sarah Kratzsch and get her second goal with less than ten minutes on the clock. Penn made several attempts in the waning minutes, but seniors
Zoe Bergan and
Jordan Love kept the back line organized to earn the shutout.
Claire German had another solid game for Warsaw, earning herself another clean sheet.
"Our group did a great job setting the tone for the game early on," said Coach Jon Hoover. "
Lola Pepper was unstoppable on the field tonight. We talked about how important it was for our group to score early in games, and our girls responded. Penn gave us all we could handle in the second half...they are well-coached and are always a very disciplined group. Games like this will prepare us for a post-season run."
With the win Warsaw elevates their record to 9-2-2. The Tigers hit the road again on Saturday as they will face off against a very talented 2A #2 Mishawaka Marian. The game will begin at 11:30am.
