The Warsaw Lady Tiger Soccer team returned to action early Saturday morning as they played host to 2A #7 Bishop Dwenger.
The Saints came out hard early against the Tigers, as their pressure forced many uncharacteristic mistakes from the home team. With just four minutes off the clock, Dwenger's pressure would prove too much as a defensive miscue would put the Tigers down 1-0. Warsaw pushed back and created chances as the first half continued, but they couldn't muster up a goal and ended the half down 1-0.
After the ten-minute break, the Lady Tigers found their groove and made the necessary adjustments to regularly attack the Saints' goal. With 9:30 left in the game,
Rylee Burns broke through the back line and took the ball to the Dwenger keeper. Burns was able to push the ball past the sprawling goalkeeper, who inadvertently dragged down Burns as she attempted to go around her. The official immediately blew the whistle and awarded Warsaw a penalty kick. Freshman
Lola Pepper calmly buried the shot, evening the score at one a piece. Neither team would find the net in the remaining nine minutes as both teams came away with a draw.
"Dwenger came out strong and caught us a bit flat this morning," Coach Jon Hoover admitted afterward. "It is unfortunate that we had
such a slow start, but we rallied together and worked hard to give ourselves a chance to get a win today."
Warsaw returns Tuesday evening to host the Goshen Redhawks at 7:15pm at the Tiger Soccer Complex. Goshen and Warsaw split the conference championship last season and were expected to be the front-runners this fall.
Come out and support your Lady Tigers as we also celebrate our educators for "Teacher Night".
