Warsaw took another step toward a Northern Lakes Conference baseball championship with their 4-0 win at NorthWood Wednesday, and they got some help.
The Tigers are now 10-1 in league play and lead Concord, who lost to Mishawaka 10-7, by two full games with only three games to play.
The story of this night was pitching and defense.
Oiver Nisen got the start and pitched 5 innings of 2-hit baseball, striking out 3 and issuing 1 walk. Brandt Martin, who struggled and one pitched 1 inning against Plymouth Monday, pitched the final 2 perfect innings to secure the win.
And the Tiger defense was errorless for the game.
It was a scoreless game into the fifth when Cohen Heady hit a solo home run to left field to give Warsaw all the runs they would need. Austin Polk and Quinton Brock each went 2-4 , with Polk also driving in a run and scoring another. Warsaw would add a pair of runs in the 6th and an insurance run in the 7th to seal the deal.
BOX SCORE
Warsaw could secure a share of the conference title with a win at home Friday at 5:30 against Northridge. .
