Varsity Baseball Walks-Off Against Goshen

It was a white-knuckler at Tiger Field Friday as Warsaw grabbed a walk-off, 6-5 win over Goshen.

The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Cohen Heady rocked a ball off the top of the left-center field fence to drive home the game-winning run.

A sacrifice fly by Kellan Bailey put Warsaw on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Goshen jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of runs.

The Tigers regained the lead with 4 in the bottom of the 6th to lead 5-2 heading into the final frame.

But Goshen scored three runs in the 7th to level the score at 5, and left the go ahead run in scoring position.

The Tigers plated the winning run on an infield hit by Grady Nelson, who went to second on a passed ball and stretched it to third when the ball rolled all the way over to the Tiger dugout. Nelson was at third when Heady drove a fast ball within a foot of a walk-off home run--but it was good enough to drive home the deciding run.

Reed Nelson was spectacular on the mound, allowing only 1 earned run on 2 hits in 6 innings. Kellan Bailey wound up being the winning pitcher, pitching the 7th inning and allowing 3 unearned runs.

4 of the 5 runs Goshen scored were unearned thanks to 7 Tiger errors.

Nelson was 3-3 with a walk, and threw out a runner trying to score on a fly ball to right field.

Warsaw continues to hold the lead in the NLC with five conference games remaining.
