Tigers Hold Off Pilgrims in Front of '84 Team

Warsaw wrapped up NLC play with a 63-56 win over Plymouth in the Tiger Den Friday night, but wasn't as simple as that.

Thanks to an 11-point first quarter by Brandt Martin, the Tigers had a 14-7 lead at the end of the period.

The lead grew to 17 at the half at 32-15, and then to 20 on two different occasions in the third quarter.

Then "it" happened again.

The Pilgrims, like several other opponents of the Tigers this season, put together a red-hot finish and almost pulled off the upset. Plymouth scored 44 points after halftime on 58-percent shooting from the field and 7-11 from beyond the arch.

That 20-point Tiger lead in the third quarter had dwindled down to only three in the game's final two minutes.

The Tigers (13-5, 4-3) were able to make enough free throws down the stretch to put the game in the "win" column.

Martin finished with a career-high-tying 23 points--it was the third time he'd scored 23 points in a game this season. Robbie Finlinson added 13 and is working on a 36-point week.

Several players and coaches from the 1984 boys state basketball championship team were in attendance and were honored just before the varsity game.

Warsaw is back home tonight against Westville, and it's senior night. That ceremony will take place after the junior varsity game.

The Tiger JV (13-4) won their 8th in a row with a 67-34 win over Plymouth Friday. Parker Justice scored a season-high 16 points, while Tristan Wilson carded 13 and Jaron Courtois scored a season-high 11.
