W Trophy Stays in Warsaw

Lady Tiger Softball
A fourth quarter rally and another big night for the defense helped Warsaw keep the "W Trophy" for a ninth straight year.

The Tigers topped Wawasee 22-15 Friday in front of a huge Homecoming Crown at Fisher Field.

The game was played under a full moon and featured a little bit of everything: each team recovered an on-side kick, the two teams combined to commit nine turnovers, both teams missed an extra point, both teams had a failed two point conversion attempt and there was a defensive score.

There were more twists and turns than a Hitchcock movie--fitting given the moon and the a layer of light fog that hung just above the tops of the stadium lights.

Despite fumbling eight times during the game and losing four of them, Warsaw still was able to get their 6th win of the season in 7 games, and with NorthWood stunning Mishawaka in overtime Friday, the Tigers are now tied with the Cavemen and Northridge for first place in the NLC at 4-1.

Reed Zollinger led the Warsaw offensive attack with 27 carries for 168 yards and a touchdown.

The Warsaw defensive unit forced five turnovers and sacked Warrior quarterback Mason Shoemaker 4 times but flushed him out of the pocket and made him improvise on a regular basis.
