There is an old expression that claims "you have to make your own breaks".
It's true in life and in sports, and it played itself out in a 2-1 Warsaw girls soccer win over #4 Penn Thursday. .
The Lady Tigers put themselves in a position for something good to happen, and something really good happened.
With under 14 minutes left to play in the second half, Warsaw earned a corner kick from the southwest corner of the pitch. Haidyn Elliott took the kick, and used her left foot to curl the ball toward the near post. With no Lady Tigers in the immediate area, two Penn defenders and their keeper stood and watch the ball twist between them untouched into the net for the game-winning goal.
Penn had good scoring chances in the final 13 minutes, but the Lady Tiger back line was up to the task.
Lola Pepper scored the first goal for Warsaw, who is unbeaten in their last 9 matches (7 wins, 2 ties) and now stands 7-2-3 on the season.
In JV action the Tigers lost 5-0 but battled hard creating many chances.
