The Warsaw boys basketball team erased a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit to knock off Mishawaka 57-54 Thursday in the Tiger Den.
Warsaw scored the last six points of the 3rd quarter with 3 baskets in the last 30 seconds of the period to get to withing 5 points at 40-35.
Warsaw continued to turn down the screws on the Cavemen with a suffocating half-court trap in the fourth quarter, forcing 11 Mishawaka turnovers in the final eight minutes that led to a 22-point final stanza.
Warsaw took their first lead of the game at 53-52 with 1:40 to play, and answered a Cavemen score to go up 55-54 in the games final minute.
Two free throws by Drew Heckaman with :02 left put Warsaw up by 3 points, and a desperation heave by the visitors at the buzzer banged off the top of the back board to seal the come-from-behind win--their 5th in the last 6 games.
Heckaman scored 19 points after hafltime to finish with a career-high 25 points. Jaxson Gould ended with 16, including two huge fourth-quarter baskets in the fourth quarter.
Warsaw is 11-7, 4-2 in the NLC and currently tied with Mishawaka in second place. NorthWood, with a game still to play, has secured the NLC title.
