Warsaw capped off their 2023 regular season with a 24-10 win over Northridge Friday at a soggy Fisher Field, securing a share of the Northern Lakes Conference championship for the first time since 2020 and for the second time since 2001.
With the rain and the temperatures falling throughout the night, the game was tied 10-10 late in the third quarter. Warsaw went on an 77-yard, 8:14 drive to regain the lead. Reed Zollinger scored the second of his three touchdowns on the night on a 4-yard run with 6:43 left in the 4th quarter to finish off that drive.
After another Smythe kickoff into the end zone, Northridge had to punt. The snap back bounced off the leg of punter Dylan Ritchie, who picked it up and was tackled at the 5 yard line. Zollinger scored his third touchdown on the very first play to put the game on ice.
Zollinger celebrated senior night with 36 carries for 211 yards.
QB Drew Sullivan, who was injured in the 1st quarter of the opening game of the season at Michigan City, came in on the third possession and played the rest of the game Friday for the Tigers.
The defense held Northridge to 85 yards rushing and 218 total yards of offense.
Warsaw (8-1, 6-1) has the week off before hosting Carroll on October 27 at Fisher Field in the 6A Sectional 2 semifinals.
