The Warsaw Lady Tigers earned an important 0-0 tie Thursday night as they visited 3A #4 Homestead. In a game that quickly became a tactical chess match, Warsaw played a very disciplined and compact defense. Throughout the course of the first half, Homestead consistently attacked the Warsaw goal, but time and time again the Tigers made important tackles and key defensive-stands when it mattered the most.
In the second half, Warsaw continued to play defensively, but Homestead's pace began to wear the Tigers down. With fourteen minutes on the clock, Homestead looked to have their game winner, but junior
Claire German made a fantastic save extending to her right and knocking the ball wide for a corner kick. With a limited roster on the evening, the Lady Tigers pulled together in the closing minutes to preserve the shutout and the 0-0 tie. Seniors
Jordan Love and
Zoe Bergan anchored the backline, while
Taylon Chastain and
Tatum Bergan had phenomenal defensive efforts for Warsaw.
The tie moves Warsaw's record to 4-2-2. They will return to action Saturday as they host 1A #19 Argos. The game will start at 11:30am at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
"I'm extremely proud of our program tonight," Coach Jon Hoover said. "We had a lot of players come into the game knowing they needed to shoulder the load. When one person stumbled, someone else always had their back throughout the night. When players had to come off the pitch, they did with pride knowing that they gave everything they had and were carried off by our bench the moment they got off the field. Tonight was a great team effort and a fantastic showing for our Lady Tigers."
