The Warsaw Lady Tigers continued their winning ways by picking up a 5-2 road win over a strong Ft. Wayne Northrop squad Monday.
Just ten minutes into the game, Northrop was awarded a penalty shot after the referee blew the whistle against Warsaw for a foul in the box. Junior goalkeeper
Claire German came up huge for the Lady Tigers, reading the shot and making an incredible save to keep the game scoreless.
Nine minutes later, Warsaw would be awarded a penalty shot of their own as
Lola Pepper was taken down in the Bruin penalty box. Pepper calmly struck the ball past the Northrop keeper to put Warsaw up 1-0. With six minutes left in the first half, the Lady Lancers were awarded a corner kick. Senior
Zoe Bergan got on the end of a
Lola Pepper cross and headed the ball in the net to give Warsaw a 2-0 lead going into the half.
Northrop's high-powered offense came to life in the second half as they made some key halftime adjustments. The Bruins were able to capitalize twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half to tie the game 2-2. With their backs against the wall,
Warsaw answered within five minutes of the Bruin goal. Abby Kohler played a ball back to senior
Jordan Love, who ripped a shot from 30 yards away, beating the Northrop keeper and giving Warsaw the 3-2 lead. Warsaw added a fourth goal when
Lola Pepper's corner deflected off the goalkeeper's hands and landed at
Rylee Burns' feet. Burns tucked the ball into the side netting to give the Lady Tigers some room to breathe. Burns would get one more of a double assist from
Lola Pepper and
Macy Wayne to give Warsaw their 5th goal.
"I thought our team showed a lot of grit tonight," said Head Coach Jon Hoover. "The field was extremely narrow, limiting the amount of space we had to move the ball.
Claire German's save really kept us in the game.I'm proud of how our team battled back multiple times, always having an answer to Northop's attack. Everyone on the roster played key minutes for us tonight."
With the win Warsaw moves to 8-2-2 (5-0) on the season. They will take to the road again on Thursday as they take on the Penn Kingsman. The varsity game will begin at 7:00pm.Â
