Lady Tigers Fall to St. Joe at Newton Park Saturday

The Warsaw Lady Tigers found themselves on the losing end of a 3-1 contest with #5 South Bend St. Joseph Saturday morning at Newton Park.

Warsaw fell behind early as St. Joe was awarded a controversial penalty inside the box just four minutes into the game. With thirteen minutes left in the first half, Warsaw would find the equalizer as Lola Pepper finished a free kick set up by the foot of Zoe Bergan

The second half opened with Warsaw finding their groove in possession. Just ten minutes into the second half, Warsaw appeared to find the opportunity they were looking for as Pepper was brought down from behind after breaking through the back line. The referees saw differently as St. Joe collected the ball with Pepper on the ground, launched into a counter attack, and scored to take a 2-1 lead.

As Warsaw was left chasing the game, St. Joe added their insurance goal with 20 minutes remaining to take the 3-1 lead.

"We did a lot of really good things with the ball today," Coach Jon Hoover said afterward, "but it felt like an uphill battle at times. It became an extremely physical game, and every call that could have gone either way simply didn't seem to go our way. Our girls showed a lot of grit and had great attitudes throughout the game."
