Warsaw falls to #11 Penn 2-1
The Warsaw Lady Tigers played their best game of the season, but fell to the #11 Penn Lady Kingsman 2-1. Warsaw came out firing from the start, but Penn found the back of the net first off a shot from Liv Kalil. Warsaw would answer when Rylee Burns followed up a shot from Sam Aalbue that was initially saved. Corissa Koontz was dominant in the midfield, creating a controversial no-call in the first half that could have led to a penalty kick.
With 27 minutes remaining, Warsaw's bad luck would continue as a questionable penalty would be called against them in the box. The converted penalty kick proved to be the game winner as neither team could muster up a goal. With the loss, Warsaw drops to 8-5. They will return to action Saturday when they host 2A #4 Mishawaka Marian.
In the JV game, the Lady Tigers pulled out a tie. Natalie Brown and Sophie Johnston had goals for the Tigers, while Joey Rastrelli gathered an assist.
Coach Hoover's comments: While we disagreed with the call, there are so many positives to take away from this game. We played at a pace that we've never played before. Corissa Koontz proved why she should be regarded as one of the best midfielders in the state. She was constantly beating defenders and putting her teammates in positions to succeed. She and Sam Aalbue poured everything into this match. This was a great game to be a part of. Coach Hart made some great adjustments to their tactics, and our girls did a fantastic job responding. Win or lose, you could tell throughout the match that this was a special game. Our team took a big step forward in our season-long progression and it feels like we are peaking at the right time.
