The Lady Tigers were hosts to the North Central Panthers in a Rugby Indiana Division 1 game on Saturday.
On a wet field that made the ball slippery it took some time for both teams to get into the game. After a period of handling errors and the resulting scrums Warsaw was able to finally apply pressure to the Panthers defense. This resulted in a gap in the Panthers defensive line allowing Raquel Bermundez to cross the line for the Tigers first try which she also converted for a 7 point lead.Â
Almost from the restart kick Warsaw started to push North Central back into their own half. Again pressure from the hard running Warsaw forwards opened gaps in the Panthers defense which allowed Sophomore Kaiah Long to crash over for her first career try. This was followed quickly by a try by Angel Tovar-Himes which was converted by Raquel Bermundez giving the Tigers a 17 point lead.
The North Central young ladies finally started to get into their game and pushed Warsaw back into their half but the Tigers defense stood strong. A hard tackle followed by a counter ruck by the Warsaw forwards secured the ball for Warsaw who transitioned quickly into attack allowing Riley Boren to score a try wide out by the side line. This was followed by a break away try by Mia Blocher just before half time which was converted by Raquel Bermundez giving the lady Tigers a 31 to zero lead at the half.
Warsaw came out strong in the second half with Angel Tovar-Himes scoring her second try of the day which was converted by Raquel Bermundez extending Warsaw lead to 38 points. The Panthers kept playing hard and it took some good defense to stop them from scoring. However Warsaw took further control of the game as the North Central players began to get tired with Warsaw Scoring a series of tries. A second for Raquel Bermundez, another for Mia Blocher, a third for Raquel Bermundez and a third for Mia Blocher two of which were converted by Raquel Bermundez.giving the Tigers a 62-0 win over the Panthers.
