Warsaw opened up Northern Lakes Conference play with a 56-51 home loss to Wawasee Friday night.
It was the Warriors first win over the Tigers since December of 2017 and just their 16th win in 68 matchups with Warsaw dating back to consolidation in 1968-69.
Neither team led by more than 6 points in a first half that featured 5 ties and 6 lead changes. But Warsaw never was able to wrestle away the lead from the Warriors after time, in large part because of an outstanding shooting performance by the visitors.
Wawasee shot 20-31 from the field (64.5%), 6-7 from 3-pt range and 10-11 from the free throw line for the game, and whenever the Tigers seemed poised to make a push, the Warriors had an answer.
Warsaw was led by Luke Bricker's 15, but he was held without a 3-pt basket. Robbie Finlinson and Brandt Martin each finished with 13.
