Wrestlers Dominate Lakers at Home

The Tiger wrestling team hosted the Lakeland Lakers on Wednesday night and got back in the win column with a 66-9 victory.

The Lady Tiger Wrestlers got the night started with wins in 4 of 5 contests.

Emma Dewald picked up her first win of the season with a pin in the first period.

That would start a chain of pinfalls for the Tigers as Natalie Davis, Emily Dawson, and Kaiah Long each found their way to first period victories.

In the only JV matchup of the night, Jace Vining secured a second period pin at 190 pounds.

The momentum kept rolling into the varsity action as Beckham Boylan worked for a pinfall victory in the heavyweight matchup.

A Lakeland forfeit at 106 was picked up by  Donovan Frazier and another pin from Bryce McNees at 113 pushed Warsaw to a 18-0 lead.

The Lakers got on the scoreboard at 120, but Owen Barker who was filling in for the night battled well and kept things close in a 9-5 decision.

Isaiah Martinez got the Tigers right back on track at 126 with a pin, and Gabe Veit was able to grind out a gritty 1-0 decision at 132 to give Warsaw a 27-3 lead.

Alex Vallejo weathered the storm in a high scoring matchup at 138 before sealing the win by pin late in the third period.

Deleo Castro got his first varsity win of the season at 144 pounds. The sophomore stepped in on short notice and picked up a second period pin.

A Lakeland forfeit at 150 was taken by Chris Figueroa to put another 6 points up for Warsaw, and Danny Moon bumped to 157 to hammer down a 10-3 decision.

Aaron Ross made quick work of his opponent at 165, and Liam Smith accepted the final forfeit of the night at 175 to move the Warsaw lead to 60-3.

Lakeland picked up their final win of the night at 190 pounds and increased their point total to 9.

In the evening's final match, Kameron Kauffman went to work and put his 215 pound opponent away in the first period.

The 66-9 final score improved the Tigers' overall record to 9-10 with just two dual meets left. The Tigers will host South Bend Riley next Wednesday. This will also be senior night for Warsaw.

The Lady Tiger Wrestlers will be on the mat Saturday at Central Noble for the Lady Cougar Invitational.
