Wrestling Falls to Cavemen

The Warsaw Wrestling team hosted NLC opponent, Mishawaka on Tuesday night and lost 53-18.

While the Tigers weren't able to pick up the win, there was plenty to be excited about during the contest.

In JV action to start the night off, KC Smith and Natalie Davis were victorious for Warsaw.  Both of the Tiger freshmen were able to overcome early takedowns to gain control of the match and ultimately earn pins to help create momentum for the team.

The varsity dual started at 113 pounds with Mishawaka picking up a win by pin after a heated back-and-forth first period.

Warsaw picked up their first win of the dual at 120 pounds, where Elias Garza rallied from a 5-point deficit in the third period.  Garza was able to secure a takedown and nearfall late in the third before working a late takedown at the buzzer to take a 12-11 decision.

Warsaw hung tough against the Cavemen's veteran lineup but didn't pick up another win until 145 pounds, where Aaron Ross delivered a tough performance.  While the two wrestlers stayed busy on their feet, nobody was able to earn a takedown in the first two periods.  In the third period, Ross was able to score via penalty and earned a reversal to take home a 3-1 decision.

Warsaw again found themselves up against a run of tough Mishawaka opponents, but held tough and battled valiantly.

At 182 pounds, Jaxson Walters shook off an early setback to nail down a win by pin to get the Tigers back on the scoreboard.

Warsaw would win the final contested match at 285 pounds as well, as Gideon Castro put in a very efficient effort to takedown and pin the Mishawaka heavyweight.

Warsaw will be back on the mat Thursday night when they travel to Goshen for another NLC contest.  The Tigers are now 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the NLC.
