Girls Rugby Shuts Out Penn to Start Season

The Warsaw Lady Tigers played host to the Penn Lady Kingsman in their first game of the season.

Warsaw made a quick start with Mia Blocher scoring a try in the first 5 minutes putting Warsaw 5 points in the lead. The conversion into a strong wind was missed by Raquel Bermundez. There then followed a period of unforced errors and poor handling by both sides resulting to several scums. During this period the Warsaw scrummage dominated the Penn pack both on their own and feed and on the Penn feed which allowed the Tigers to regain possession of the ball. The Tigers then proceeded to get comfortable with playing into the strong wind and started to make some strong runs and make accurate passes. This started to stretch the Penn defense allowing Riley Boren to go over for her first try of the game which was converted by Raquel Bermundez taking the score out to 12 to zero to Warsaw. The lady tigers now started to play with more confidence and started to manipulate the Penn defense using a combination of strong driving runs by the forwards, short offloading passes and quick recycling of the ball at the tackle and rucks . This provided the Warsaw forwards and back line with opportunities to exploit the gaps created in Penn's disorganized defense. This enabled Warsaw to score a series of tries. With two tries being scored by Raquel Bermundez, and additional tries by Riley Boren, Tahlia Fellers, with Raquel Bermundez kicking 4 conversions to take Warsaw out to a 40 point to zero lead at the half. Warsaw made a number of substitutions at the  half but continued to dominate in most phases of play extending their lead with series of tries from both the forwards and backs. With two tries being scored by Sarah Handy, Emma Dewald and additional tries by Angel Tovar-Himes, Mia Blocher,  Raquel Bermundez  and Tahlia Feller.  With Raquel Bermundez kicking 3 conversions to give Warsaw a score of 86 point to zero at the final whistle.

The Lady Tigers next game is on Saturday April  15th away to Carmel.
