Huntington North hit seven 3pt FGs in the first quarter and beat the Lady Tigers Wednesday 63-56.
The Lady Vikings, who had been averaging less than five made 3-pt shots per game made 11 of 22 for the game. Overall, they shot 52% from the field, which was far better than their 44% shooting through their first 11 games.
They rode that early splash to a 25-14 lead after one quarter and ended up leading the entire game.
Trailing 36-25 at halftime, Warsaw came out to start the third quarter and made a serious run at the home side. Brooke Zartman's 11 sparked an 8-0 run to start the quarter with a pair of long-range jumpers and a steal and score to get Warsaw to withing three at 36-33, but Huntington North squashed the comeback attempt over the last 12 minutes of the game.
Zartman led the Lady Tigers with 26 points including 6 of 11 from beyond the arch.
Two other numbers to consider in how the game was decided--Warsaw committed 16 turnovers and the Lady Vikings out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 27-12.
Warsaw (8-5) will be back in action at a four-way tournament at Center Grove on Dec. 29. They play Brownsburg in the semifinals at approximately 11:30, and then either Center Grove or Jeffersonville in either the consolation of championship at 5pm of 6:30.
The Warsaw junior varsity rallied to win at Huntington North 38-32. Cassie Jackson had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Sammi Rastrelli added 10 points and 4 steals for the 10-3 Lady Tigers.
The freshman game was postponed because Huntington North didn't have enough healthy players to play.
