The Tiger wrestlers were back in action Thursday night against the Plymouth Rockies. The contest saw multiple ties and lead changes before the Warsaw lightweights sealed the deal for a 33-26 victory.
The tone of the evening was set early with the junior varsity squad. With both teams having a limited lineup for the night, there were only three JV matches.
Ethan Transparenti picked up his first win of the season by scoring all of the points in the last two periods to post a 10-4 decision.
Harrison Stofer followed with an impressive showing with a pair of strong takedowns before finishing the match early in period two via pinfall.
The varsity action kicked off at 132, where Plymouth was able to narrowly come by a 4-2 decision to start up 3-0.
Danny Moon notched another victory in his young career, taking home a win by pin at 148 pounds to move Warsaw into a 6-3 lead.
Plymouth responded with a pin of their own at the halfway mark of the second period to go back in front.
At 152,
Andrew Ross found his offense late in the third period to earn a gritty 5-4 win and pull the team score even.
Warsaw and Plymouth traded pins at 160 and 170, both at the 3:57 mark.
The Tigers made Plymouth's returning state qualifier work for everything before the fall.
In the 170 bout, Jaxson Walters scrapped to earn position and get the mat slap.
A tech-fall at 182 put Plymouth back in front with a team score of 20-15.
The Tigers battled toot-and-nail at 195 losing a tough decision as Plymouth extended their last lead of the night to 8 points.
Isaac Beam overcame an early takedown to gain control and work to a pinfall victory.
Kameron Kauffman filled in at the heavyweight spot to pick up a forfeit victory and put Warsaw back on top at 27-23.
The 106 contest saw tons of action but Plymouth ultimately pulled out a 5-3 win and their last team points of the night.
A double forfeit at 113 kept the lead for the Tigers.
Elias Garza worked to an 8-2 decision on the strength of four takedowns, pushing the Warsaw lead to 30-26.
With the outcome of the dual still in question,
Isaiah Martinez put together one of his best matches to bring home a 7-1 decision and close the scoring at 33-26 for the Tigers.
Warsaw's win moves their season record to 7-4 with an NLC record of 3-2.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, with the varsity heading to the Northridge Raider Duals and the JV going back to Plymouth for their JV Invitational.
